The harsh slam of rain and the occassional boom of thunder is so loud Kageyama can't even hear his own breathing or the thud of the volleyball as he sets it up to catch it again. School was cancelled for the day since the announcement of a sudden thunderstorm in their region.

He hasn't gotten up since he woke up two hours ago. It's currently eleven am and he hasn't eaten a thing since last night. All the lights in his house are closed, not even the lamplight next to his bed is on. His phone lays next to the lamplight on his bedside table, put on silent after he couldn't handle the insistant dinging from countless messages coming from three different group chats. His ears just couldn't handle the high pitched noise today.

Normally, he'd be happy to participate with his friends-- he didn't think he'd ever have any again after middle school but here we are-- with their ridiculous conversations, but not today. Today's one ofthosedays. When the lights are just a little bit too bright. Thoughts just a little bit too loud. House just a little colder than it usually is.

He hasn't felt this way in a while.

He doesn't even knowwhyhe feels like this. Everything's been going so well lately. He found a place in Karasuno, a kinship with it's members, and a growing friendship with the other first years and other setters. He and Miwa call or text eachother everyday, so there's nothing wrong there. He hasn't bumped into anyone from middle school. It's not near his grandfather's death anniversary.

Sowhy.

He throws the ball too hard and fails to catch it. It falls to the ground and roles away. He doesn't have the energy to get up and get it, so he just drops his arms and continues to lay there.

He's a liar cause he knows why.

It's cause last night his brain decided it wanted to slap Kageyama with a faceful of insecurities. It decided it wanted to give him a nightmare. One where everything he's managed to build up comes crumbling down. One where his team decides they don'twanthim. Cuz, y'know, he's tyrannical and socially awkward. A bad tempered, arrogant, cold, distant, sad little sh*t and his team doesn't want him and Miwa doesn't want him and Hinata doesn't want him and Kindaichi and Kinumi were right--

The loud snap of thunder interrupts his thoughts.

He stares at the ceiling dazedly for a few seconds before snatching his phone from the night stand once he realizes he wasspiraling again. It takes a moment to unlock his phone with shaky hands. His eyes are starting to sting as he ignores the other messages and scrolls through his contacts, pressing the familiar'Big Sis'.

It rings three times, enough for him to think he should end the call 'cause Miwa has her own problems to deal with and he should learn to deal with his own and stop acting like awhining child--

"Hello?"

It's Miwa's curious voice that interupts his thoughts this time and he bites his bottom lip and squeezes his eyes shut as tears finally spill out. He only remembers he needs to answer when Miwa, with a voice gentler than before, beats him to it.

"...Tobi, I'm here for you."

He sobbs.

"Miwa-nii..." His voice is barely over a whispher and he stuttered so much over three syllables but Miwa doesn't judge him.

He's not even suprised she knew what was wrong before he said it. Afterall, it was Miwa who's been there through it all. It was Miwa who held him when he cried to sleep at night after their grandfather died, after he was rejected by his team in middle school. It wasMiwawho pat his head after he won a match or ranted about a new book. It wasMiwawho he spilled all his deepest, darkest,ugliestinsecurities and fears to. She was always and probably always will be the person he turns to when he needs someone, and he knows that goes both ways.

"Oh, Tobi..."She sounds sympathetic but not pitying, 'cause sheknowshe hates being pitied. Has hated it since the first time he told past friends he doesn't have parents, only a grandpa and a sister who loved him more than the world and really, that's all he ever needed.

They stay on the phone for half an hour with Miwa gently whisphering soft reassurances to him until he calms down. When he finally feels like he can talk without sobbing, Miwa encourages him to eat.

"...Sorry I bothered you." He says hesitantly as he puts a spoonful of cereal in his mouth.

"Tobi, don't do that. If anything I'm glad you called, you know I hate it when you bottle everything up."

Kageyama humms in response.

"Actually I was planning on calling you today anyway . I have some good news."

Kageyama humms in question this time.

"I'm coming home next week!"

That sentence is enough to light up his entire day. There's still, no doubt, a thunderstorm outside, but it feels like the clouds have parted becausehis sister is coming home.

"Really!?"

Miwa chuckles lightly."Yeah, do you want me to bring anything home?"

"Suprise me."

"Challenge accepted."

Despite the horrible start of his Wednesday, things are starting to look up.

They stay on the phone for another hour before Miwa says she needs to answer a couple messages from her boss. They say their love you's and goodbyes and end the call.

It's only then that Kageyama realizes that his phone has stopped receiving messages from three different group chats and instead is only receiving a bombardment of messages from onlyone foreign one.

He opens it of course, because he's finally ready for some entertainment now that he's feeling better.
